FERRY BUILDING JEWEL BOX

THEORY VENTURES OFFICE

Location: FERRY BUILDING - SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

Scope: 1,200 sq ft refinishing | complete furnishing and decor

COMPLETION date: spring 2024

objective: CELEBRATE thE historic jewel box suite’s rich character AND STORIED past THROUGH THE USE OF custom and LOCALLY SOURCED mid-century modern FURNISHINGs and personal memorabilia

The historic features and limitations of the space allowed us to highlight the beauty of the original 8’ sash windows, wainscoting, and oak floors which add a sense of charm and richness to the space. We refinished the floors and washed the walls in a warm white to create a serene and welcoming environment that gracefully disguises its high tech features and feels more like a living space than a workspace.

With the goal of designing an office that their team and clients would feel warm and relaxed in, we sourced furniture and decor handmade by California craftspeople and vintage mid-century modern found locally.

Framed film prints from the team’s camping trips displayed alongside historic photographs and paintings of the San Francisco bay and the Embarcadero honor the building’s current stewards while paying homage to the district’s iconic heritage.
